* WHAT...Periods of light snow. Accumulations of up to 2 inches mainly above 2000 feet.

* WHERE...Higher elevations (above 2000 feet) across the following counties in north Georgia. Murray, Gilmer, Fannin, Pickens, Dawson, Lumpkin, White, Union and Towns.

* WHEN...Until 10 AM EST Saturday.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...In addition to the snow, temperatures will fall below freezing tonight leading to slick roads, especially over the higher passes and gaps through the mountains.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... A Winter Weather Advisory for snow means periods of snow will cause primarily travel difficulties. Expect snow covered roads and limited visibilities, and use caution while driving.

SNOW ACCUMULATIONS AND WINDY CONDITIONS THROUGH SATURDAY MORNINNG ABOVE 3500 FT... .As a low pressure system tracks northeast of the area, precipitation will linger across the mountains this afternoon and evening as cold air moves in from the northwest. Snow levels will gradually fall through the early evening, reaching the valley floors by nightfall. Snow showers will gradually taper off Saturday morning.

* WHERE...In Georgia, Rabun County. In North Carolina, Macon and Southern Jackson Counties.

* WHEN...Through noon EST Saturday.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the evening commute at high elevations. Gusty winds may knock a few power lines and trees down, resulting in isolated power outages.
