A celebration parade is scheduled for Monday morning in downtown Atlanta after the Atlanta United beat the Portland Timbers 2-0 to win the team's first MLS Championship.
The team attained the championship in just its second season and is the first professional sports team to bring a championship to Atlanta since the Braves won the World Series in 1995.
The parade steps off at 10 a.m. at the corner of Peachtree and Baker Streets, but Atlanta police will begin closing streets along the route by 9 a.m.
The route winds around Centennial Olympic Park and ends at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, where a special ceremony will take place around noon. Gov. Nathan Deal, Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance-Bottoms and team owner Arthur Blank will be among the dignitaries who will honor the team, according to the Atlanta Journal Constitution.
