Basketball: Branch girls avenge loss to Lady Tigers; Dawson boys roll

FLOWERY BRANCH — The Flowery Branch girls avenged a season-opening loss to Dawson County with an impressive 59-45 win over the Lady Tigers Thursday night at home.

It was the first loss of the season for Dawson County (3-1) which had knocked of Flowery Branch (2-1) 65-57 two weeks ago.

Thursday's game was similar to the first game as the Lady Falcons jumped out to a quick 14-2 lead after the first quarter. But unlike the first game, the Lady Tigers were not able to put a big run together.

Flowery Branch led Dawson County after each quarter taking a 30-21 lead into halftime and a 45-31 advantage heading into the fourth quarter.

Caroline Wysocki and Ashley Scott each scored 15 points to lead Flowery Branch. Ashlee Locke an Ashley Woodroffe pored in 11 points each for the Lady Falcons.

Kaylee Sticker scored 12 points to lead Dawson County. Sophia D'Oliveira added 11 and Marlie Townley 10 points for the Lady Tigers.

Flowery Branch was scheduled to open Region 7-4A play on Friday against Marist but that game has been postponed due to the Marist football team playing a semifinal game on Friday. There has been no date set yet on rescheduling.

Dawson County next will play Banks County on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. in the North Georgia High School Showcase at North Georgia University.

The Dawson boys improved to 3-1 with their second win over the Falcons (0-4) on the season.

Jasper Gibson poured in 28 points, including the 1,000th of his career, to go with 7 assists, 3 rebounds, and 3 steals to lead Dawson County. Luke Chism added 19 pts, 5 rebounds, 6 steals, and 5 assists. Mason Barnes had 11 pts, 3 rebounds, and 3 assists, and Eli Burruss chipped in 8 points and 9 rebounds for the Tigers.

Caroline Wysocki scored 15 points in the Lady Falcons' win over Dawson County Thursday night.
