Lumpkin County schools partner with local farm for alternative to romaine lettuce

With a ban on romaine lettuce across the country, schools must find ways to still offer healthy, nutritious foods to students.

The Lumpkin County School System decided to be proactive and resourceful, announcing plans to offer a local farm to school alternative, according to their Facebook page.
 
Food Services personnel are partnering with the Costley Family Farms in Dawsonville to offer butter head lettuce to students.
 
The Centers for Disease Control reported an E. coli outbreak connected to romaine lettuce on November 20.
