A Buford man and his mother were both arrested after a SWAT standoff in Buford Wednesday evening.

Gwinnett Police Officer Jacob Albright said the SWAT team was called to home on Maple Wood Trail around 6:15 p.m. after reports Peter Scrocca, 30, was shooting a firearm into the air. Scrocca then went into the house and refused to come outside to talk with officers. There were other family members who fled the scene, but Scrocca's mother was inside the home with her son.

"The issue we were having is his mother Arlene," Albirght said. "She was in the house willingly, she was not in any danger. We were in contact with her as well."

He said during the time the two were inside the house, she was advising her son not to surrender to police.

Just before midnight, Scrocca and his mother were both arrested.

Arlene Scrocca, 60, is charged with obstruction. Peter Scrocca is charged with reckless conduct, assault and unlawful discharge of a firearm, which are all misdemeanor charges.

Both mother and son were taken to the Gwinnett County Detention Center.
