An apparent electrical fire in a nearly 100-year-old home on Lake Rabun took Rabun County firefighters roughly 90 minutes to control early Thursday.
Rabun County Fire stations 4, 7 and 12 were dispatched to the report of an electrical smell and possible fire at 643 Lake Rabun Road, Lakemont, at 1:03 a.m. Thursday, according to Rabun County Fire Services Assistant Chief Justin Upchurch.
“The first unit on scene advised that the house was filling with smoke and that there was fire in the wall,” Upchurch said. “The fire, believed to be electrical in nature, traveled up the inside of the walls and into the attic of the 1920s lake house. Stations 6 and 10 were ultimately requested for manpower.”
Although firefighters brought the fire under control in about 90 minutes, they remained on scene until 6 a.m. ensuring all the fire was extinguished and cooled, according to Upchurch. No injuries were reported.
