An employee of Cargill in Gainesville was seriously injured during a mechanical accident on top of a silo Thursday afternoon.

Gainesville Fire Division Chief Keith Smith said the man's rescue harness became entangled in a piece of machinery.

"Upon assessment, we did find he had serious injuries to his shoulders, face, neck and back [and] sis entire upper torso," Smith said.

Smith said the man was strapped to a basket and lowered off the silo with a crane. He was then transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center.

The incident happened just before 4 p.m.

There was no immediate word on the condition of the worker.
