JEFFERSON — Jefferson football saw its 2018 campaign come to a close in a 35-7 loss to Westminster on Friday in the first round of the Class 3A playoffs in Jefferson.
The Dragons (8-3) struck first as Colby Clark, returning from injury, staked Jefferson to a 7-0 first quarter lead -- only to watch the Wildcats reel off 35 unanswered points, including a 28-7 halftime lead.
Westminster finished with 293 total yards, including 166 rushing, and while Jefferson out-gained the visitors with 310 total yards (242 rushing), they were unable to find a way back into the end zone.
Clark's 1-yard plunge yielded a lead with 5:02 remaining in the first quarter. Yet Westminster answered less than a minute later on a 55-yard touchdown connection between quarterback Parks Harber and Luke Janentte. Harber finished the night with two passing scores and a rushing touchdown. His next two scores made it 21-7 early in the second quarter before Will Hallmark scampered into the end zone from 16 yards for a 28-7 halftime lead.
Jefferson's season is now complete.
