COMMERCE — After dropping two straight contests to close the regular season Commerce football rebounded in emphatic fashion in the first round of the Class A Public playoffs on Friday.
The Tigers rolled to a 42-6 win over Seminole County, scoring all their points in the first half, while dominating the Indians on defense.
Commerce allowed just 89 total yards, 85 of that on the ground. Meanwhile the Tigers (9-2) rushed for 175 yards and passed for 119 as they stormed into the second round of the Class A Public bracket, where they will travel south to face Mitchell County next week.
Da'Juan Wood got things rolling early for Commerce, scoring on a 37-yard touchdown run for a 7-0 lead. Minutes later Nate Ray made it 14-0 on a 52-yard run.
The Tigers then sealed the contest in the second quarter, scoring four touchdowns.
Ray connected on two touchdown passes during the scoring blitz, including a 54-yard strike to Sam Roach and a 65-yard connection with Caleb Mason. Commerce also scored on defense as TJ Trudnak scooped up a fumble and returned it 36 yards for a touchdown.
Michael Sherman made it 42-0 at the half on a 11-yard touchdown run.
