Gwinnett County Police have arrested a Winder man in connection to a string of burglaries in the Dacula area.

Cpl. Michele Pihera said Jason Scott Jones, 37, is believed responsible for crimes at 16 locations since Sept. 20, mostly breaking into vehicles and businesses along the Winder Highway corridor.

On September 21, officers assigned to the East Precinct located Jones driving a moped at the Family Dollar at 2590 Winder Highway in Dacula," Pihera said in a written statement. "When the officers learned that his moped was stolen, he ran. Though he evaded capture, the officers identified him and secured two warrants for his arrest."

During the time Jones was on the run, Pihera said several more businesses in the same area were burglarized.

"At most of these burglary locations, vehicles parked on the property were also broken into," she said. "The suspect targeted businesses and vehicles parked at businesses along Winder Highway near the railroad tracks."

When investigators looked at surveillance images from some of the burglarized locations, they realized Jones was the suspect.

"Jones was eventually arrested by the officers assigned to the East Precinct CRT and the K9 Unit.  He has been cooperative with the investigation thus far," Pihera said.
