Posted 9:30AM on Tuesday 6th November 2018 ( 5 years ago )

TIGER — Rabun County quarterback Gunner Stockton may still be a freshman on the roster -- but he is in no longer a freshman on the field.

The Wildcats signal caller has impressed throughout his rookie varsity campaign, after starting from day one, and is getting better each week.

His performance on Friday proved that to the rest of northeast Georgia.

Facing rival Union County for the Region 8-2A championship, Stockton piled up 374 total yards and six touchdowns to help lead Rabun to a 56-28 victory.

The win propelled the Wildcats to their fifth straight region crown -- and first under the freshman Stockton.

For his efforts, Stockton has been named the Conditioned Air Systems Athlete of the Week.

Stockton finished the game with 13 rushes for 95 yards and four scores on the ground while also completing 20 of 28 passes for 279 yards and two touchdowns against the best defense Rabun had faced in weeks. And now Stockton is prepping to lead Rabun into his first ever state playoffs.

AccessWDUN Sports and Friday Game Night's Morgan Lee recently caught up with Stockton to talk about his big night, Rabun's playoff hopes and his and his team's improvements through the course of this season.

Rabun County's Gunner Stockton (14) and Jackson Webb celebrate after a Stockton touchdown run in the Wildcats' win over Union County on Friday in Tiger.
