Strong thunderstorms with damaging winds are possible across parts of north Georgia this afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.

"Risk for damaging winds and a brief tornado exists across west-central and southwest GA today," according to a post on the NWS Peachtree City Facebook page.  "The line of showers and thunderstorms that elevates this potential will cross the AL/GA line between 12-2PM this afternoon, with the threat extending east through the afternoon.

Tornado warnings have already been issued in some parts of the state.

The biggest threat for damaging winds, according to an NWS map, is in southwest Georgia but the threat extends as far north as Gainesville, Cumming, Canton, and Rome, and as far east as Jefferson, Athens, Eatonton, and Dublin.
