Posted 6:33AM on Tuesday 23rd October 2018 ( 6 years ago )

The funeral will be held Wednesday for the Gwinnett County Police officer shot and killed in the line of duty Saturday, and Governor Nathan Deal has issued an executive order for lowering flags at the State Capitol and Gwinnett County on Wednesday to honor his memory.

On Saturday, Officer Antwan Toney was shot and killed while responding to a suspicious vehicle call near Shiloh Middle School in Snellville. His alleged assailant is also deceased after a manhunt ended Tuesday at a home in Snellville; another alleged attacker is in custody.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. at 12 Stone Church in Lawrenceville. Another funeral will be held November 3 in Los Angeles, since Toney was originally from southern California.

According to his obituary, Toney was six days shy of celebrating three years with Gwinnett County Police; he graduated from the Gwinnett Police Department's 94th Academy in April 2016. Toney had just turned 30 years old on October 17.

Crowell Funeral Home and Crematory is handling the arrangements in Georgia while Angelus Funeral Home is handling arrangements in Los Angeles. Anyone wishing to send cards or flowers may send them to either funeral home, per the obituary. His full obituary is available here.

The flags will be flown at half-staff at the State Capitol and in Gwinnett County.

Deal issued the executive order Monday.

"...WHEREAS: It is fitting and proper to recognize Officer Toney's service to Gwinnett County and the State of Georgia by lowering the flags on the State Capitol building and in Gwinnett County to half-staff.

NOW, THEREFORE, IN HONOR AND AS A MARK OF RESPECT FOR THE MEMORY OF OFFICER ANTWAN TONEY, PURSUANT TO THE AUTHORITY VESTED IN ME AS GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF GEORGIA, IT IS HEREBY

ORDERED: That the flag of the United States and the flag of the State of Georgia be flown at half-staff on the State Capitol building and in Gwinnett County on Wednesday, October 24, 2018.

This 22nd day of October, 2018."
