UPDATE: Jackson EMC lineman assigned to South Georgia for storm relief

The Jackson EMC crew members who volunteered to help with power restoration for customers impacted by Hurricane Michael learned Friday morning that they will be working with Grady EMC in South Georgia.

According to April Sorrow, Public Relations and Communications Director for the co-op, 29 Jackson EMC linemen and other personnel left North Georgia to head south to assist with power restoration efforts.

Grady EMC serves more than 19,000 meters in Brooks, Colquitt, Decatur, Grady, Mitchell and Thomas counties, and as of 9 a.m. Friday, Grady EMC had 16,477 outages across its service area. Sorrow said that representats 86 percent of its meters.

Jackson EMC linemen will assist with replacing a reported 400 broken utility poles. 

Jackson EMC is sending more than two dozen linemen and other personnel to assist Grady EMC in South Georgia with power restoration efforts.
