Teen charged after single-vehicle wreck hurts 10

The Georgia State Patrol so far has released only preliminary details of a wreck that injured 10 people north of Helen Tuesday afternoon.

The single-vehicle wreck at 3:27 p.m. on Poplar Stump Road near Robertstown involved a 2009 Kia Borrego driven by a 16-year-old female whose name is being withheld, according to GSP.

The Kia was headed south on Poplar Stump Road, traveling too fast for the conditions on the curve, and went into a fishtail, according to GSP. The driver lost control and the vehicle traveled off the left side of the roadway and down an embankment, striking a tree with its driver's side front quarter panel.

The driver was injured and was transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center.

She was charged with reckless driving, driving too fast for conditions, and seatbelt violations, according to GSP.

There were nine passengers in the vehicle. All were transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center for treatment, according to GSP.

The investigation is continuing.
