A tropical storm that is pushing its way across the Gulf of Mexico is on track to impact the weather across Georgia this week, including the Gainesville area.
The National Hurricane Center officially upgraded a tropical depression into Tropical Storm Michael Sunday afternoon.
Fox meteorologist Rick Reichmuth says, "We potentially could have a hurricane on our doorstep maybe sometime Wednesday around the panhandle of Florida."
Reichmuth says the exact path of the storm remains unclear but, he says there is, "...not much time to prepare. Not a big chance that it will become a very, very strong hurricane, but could be at a minimal hurricane."
Going by one of the currently expected paths, northeast Georgia could be in the outer bands of the storm by early morning Thursday, which would mean possibly heavy rain and strong winds.
Michael is expected to strengthen into a hurricane in the next couple of days, according to forecasters at the National Weather Service Office in Peachtree City, who add "The probability of tropical storm conditions impacting our area on Wednesday and Thursday is continuing to increase."
After the storm, forecasters say the temperatures across Georgia will likely start to fall and become more seasonal.
