The Georgia Department of Transporation announced good news for drivers who travel I-85 in Gwinnett County.
Spokeswoman Katie Strickland said, "Beginning next week, drivers on Interstate 85 in Gwinnett County will gain access to an additional general purpose lane between I-985 and Hamilton Mill Road."
Strickland said the new lanes will open in both directions this weekend.
Work continues on the I-85 Express Lanes Extension project and those lanes remain closed for now.
Once complete, the extension will stretch along I-85 from Old Peachtree Road to Hamilton Mill Road adding to the Georgia Express Lanes network.
