CLARKESVILLE — The Piedmont College men's golf team finished in second place in the team competition at the 13th Annual Piedmont College Fall Invitational, held at The Orchard Golf and Country Club.
The Lions shot 21-over as a team during the second and final round on Tuesday, placing them at 30-over for the tournament. Methodist took home the team title with a score of 13-over. The Lions finished four shots better than Walters State, who placed third.
After firing an opening round of 70, MATTHEW LEEMANN concluded his tournament with a career-best finish of T-2 after another solid round of 73. The sophomore finished just three strokes behind individual winner Lucas Spahl from Methodist.
Both JOSH DESAIN and GRIFFIN KERN finished the tournament at 9-over, good for a tie for 11th in the 56-person field.
Freshmen ALEX MORETTINI and MICHAEL CLARDY rounded out the Lions' team play participants, each shooting 79.
Competing as individuals, fellow freshmen CANDLER MURPHEY and DALTON CAULEY posted tournament scores of 13-over and 14-over, respectively, as Murphey moved in to a tie for 22nd thanks to a final-round 78.
Up next, the Lions will take part in the Reeder Cup, beginning Monday, Oct. 15 at Lookout Mountain Golf Club in Lookout Mountain, Georgia.
