Girls basketball: Defense propels Dawson County past rival Lumpkin County

DAWSONVILLE — Dawson County pushed its current win streak to three with a 43-22 victory over rival Lumpkin County Friday night in Region 7-AAA action.

It was tight game in the first half as the Lady Tigers (11-7, 3-3 Region 7-AAA) led just 11-6 after the first quarter 24-17 at halftime. But Dawson County turned up the defense in the second half.

Dawson County held the Lady Indians (8-10, 2-6) to just five second half points.

Kaylee Sticker paced Dawson County with 16 points. Anna Lowe added 11 points and Cadey Ayers chipped in with 8 points for the Lady Tigers.

The Lady Tigers face tough task on Saturday as they play host to Class AAA No. 1 Greater Atlanta Christian (14-3, 7-0) on Saturday. Tip off is slated for 1 p.m. at the Dawson County gym.
