DACULA — The Gainesville boys ran their win streak to nine straight after taking a dominating 89-55 win over Dacula Friday night in a crucial Region 8-AAAAAA matchup.
The Red Elephants (12-6, 5-0 Region 8-AAAAAA) had five players score in double figures, led KJ Buffen's 16 points. Bailey Minor added 15, Griffin Nevel 12, Xavier Bledson 11, and Jarred Rosser 10 for Gainesville.
Gainesville opened and finished strong. The Red Elephants jumped out to a 26-13 lead after the first quarter and outscored the Falcons (10-8, 3-2) 47-25 in the second half.
In the girls contest, the Lady Elephants fell 49-46 to the Lady Falcons (10-9, 4-1) who moved within a half-game of first place Lanier with the victory.
Tija Blackwell had 17 points to lead the Lady Red Elephants (6-10, 1-4). Tia Shelton added 14 points and Sadie Roach 9 for Gainesville.
Both Gainesville teams will head to Buford on Saturday. Tip off is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. for the girls. The boys will tip at approximately 5:30 p.m. as Buford is holding Senior Day and will play the JV boys game in between the two varsity contests.
