ELBERTON — The Elbert County Sheriff’s Office and several other agencies are investigating a Sunday missing person report that turned into a homicide on Monday.

“Complainant stated Mr. Otha Perrin, 86, apparently had walked away or someone had picked him up due to his car still being at the residence,” Sunday’s complainant told responding deputies.

"On Monday morning, Jan. 8, the investigation turned from missing person to a homicide investigation when Perrin’s body was recovered from a farm pond in Elbert County," a statement issued by the sheriff’s office Tuesday reads.

According to the statement, three people currently are being held at the Elbert County Detention Center as part of the investigation, but specifics of those individuals has not been released yet.

The Elbert County Coroner’s Office, Georgia State Probation Office, Athens-Clarke County Police Department, and Northern Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office are assisting in the investigation.

Perrin’s body was sent to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation State Crime Lab for an autopsy.

More information will be released as the investigation continues, according to the sheriff’s office.
