The Hall County Planning Commission voted to table a request from the builders of a neighborhood near Flower Branch who were looking to amend the subdivision's driveway requirement Tuesday.
The builders had originally proposed a shared driveway neighborhood that would feature six lots using three driveways, but JH Homes, Inc. is now asking for that condition to be removed so that each lot in the subdivision could have its own driveway.
The proposal had opposition from several nearby residents of the development, saying the builder's have caused some issues for them. Multiple residents said the construction crews had been illegally burning construction materials and using woods behind existing homes in the place of a portable restroom.
Representatives from JH Homes were not in attendance, and despite pleas from residents to deny the request, Planning Commission Chairman Don Smallwood said he wanted to table the item to give the company a chance to answer questions on those complaints.
"I'm kind of of the same opinion that if someone has an application and think enough of it, they need to be here to represent it and answer the questions of these folks or tell us what they're going to do about it," Smallwood said. "I wouldn't have a problem tabling this until the next meeting to see if they want to come."
A motion to table the item came from Planning Commissioner Frank Sosebee and it was approved unanimously. The request will now come back before the planning commission on February 5 rather than the next immediate meeting due to the January 16 meeting already having a long list of items to address.
The development is on Gaines Ferry Road just west of McEver Road.
