A Buford woman continues to recover from what are being called the serious injuries she suffered in a two-car rear-end collision on I-985 Monday morning.
Georgia State Patrol Cpl. Luke Mize said the drivers were traveling just below the speed limit near mile marker 21 when the wreck occurred. The location is between Ga. 60/Queen City Parkway and U.S. 129/Athens Highway.
"The first vehicle (Toyota 4Runner) that was rear-ended (by Kia Sorento) traveled off the west shoulder. As it began to rotate sideways, it struck a standing tree in the median," Mize said.
Gainesville Fire Department Division Chief Smith said first responders got the call around 11:00 a.m.
"There were two people trapped in the vehicle (4Runner). GFD personnel worked to extricate both patients," Smith wrote in an email.
The most severely injured victim was a passenger in the 4Runner, Martha Lee Jordak, of Buford. Mize said she sustained two broken femurs and other broken bones. The 4Runner driver, Samir Jordak, of Buford, suffered a broken leg and other minor injuries.
The driver of the Sorrento, Edie Timms, of Gainesville, was not injured, according to Mize. Although charges are pending, Mize said speed, distraction, drugs and alcohol do not appear to be factors in the accident.
The Georgia State Patrol is continuing to investigate the collision.
