No one was home at the time, but officials say a house was heavily damaged by a fire early Saturday morning in Statham.

In a release, Barrow County Emergency Management Services say they were called to the home on Broad Street just after midnight and fire captain Scott Dakin said they found the home heavily involved in flames.

"The fire had extended into the attic and was through the roof in the middle of the structure," Dakin said in the release.

Authorities said fire crews from three nearby stations had to assist to attack the blaze from the outside before moving to an interior attack.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
