GAINESVILLE — North Hall football coach David Bishop knew his team was close to a breakthrough -- and if he could have picked the best time for it, it would have been Friday night.

His Trojans obliged, notching their first win of the season, 13-0 over Fannin County at The Brickyard.

The victory proved North Hall's first of the campaign, coming on the heels of back-to-back razor-thin defeats.

"This is enormous for us; when you lose your first region game it really is hard to get over the hump, and then for us to be 0-4, if we'd taken another loss it might have been really hard to get the kids to the next level," Trojans coach David Bishop said. "This was absolutley huge, and we've seen so much improvement from this team."

North Hall got touchdowns on either side of halftime to make the difference on the scoreboard -- David Seavey connecting with Nate Nixon for a 2-yard scoring strike with six seconds left before the interval for a 7-0 lead. Peyton Mavity rounded out the scoring with 8:36 left in the third quarter, running in from 17 yards. And, while the Trojans (1-4, 1-0 Region 7-AAA) missed the point after attempt, it was more than enough thanks to a North Hall defense that picked off two passes and recovered a Rebels (2-3, 0-1) fumble, while holding Fannin County to 159 total yards.

"We dropped five interceptions; we really were on top of it with our pass defense tonight," Bishop said. "And we ran the ball well on offense."

North Hall finished with 211 yards on the ground, including a team-hgh 92 yards for Jack Brown. Mavity added 59 yards, while Daniel Jackson rushed for 45. Seavey also completed all five passes attempted for 50 yards.

The Trojans did commit 11 penalties for 110 yards but still overcame it to get their region season started right.

"We're going to enjoy this tonight and then get ready for a very good Dawson County team next week," Bishop said.

North Hall's Jack Brown, center, carries the ball through a sea of Fannin County defenders in the Trojans' win over Fannin on Friday in Gainesville.
