A Gainesville man is awaiting sentencing following his conviction Thursday for trying to lure and sexually assault a 16-year-old fast food worker.

Demetrius Miguel Render, 45, of Gainesville was convicted on charges of aggravated sexual assault with intent to rape and false imprisonment, following a two-day trial, according to Lee Darragh, Hall County district attorney.

The incident happened Sept. 3, 2016 at the Dairy Queen on Green Street in Gainesville.

"He coerced her — the victim — into a restroom. At that time ... Mr. Render grabbed the victim, attempted to sexually assault the victim; however the victim was fortunately able to fight back, was able to get away, get out of the restroom and seek the help of other employees at the business," said Sgt. Kevin Holbrook, Gainesville Police spokesman, at the time of the incident.

Darragh said in an email to AccessWDUN that sentencing has been deferred to a later date.
