DEMOREST — In the 2017 home opener, the Piedmont College volleyball team dropped a close 3-1 contest to the Brevard College Tornados Wednesday evening. The Lady Lions kept it close as the three sets they dropped were all by three points or less.

Piedmont took the first set 25-20 in the largest scoring difference of the match but in the second set it took extras to decide. Piedmont led 23-20 but the Tornados came back to score three straight to end the set 27-25.

The Tornados continued to use that momentum to win the final two sets of the evening as Brevard's Hannah Elmore led all scorers with 17 kills while Josie McElroy posted 50 assists. Haley Hixon posted 28 digs for the Lady Lions while Lainey Choiniere (23) and Jenna Wendel (20) split the Lady Lions' assists primarily.
