GAINESVILLE — After dropping two straight, the Chestatee football team got back on track on Friday courtesy a 31-7 defeat of Fannin County in Gainesville.
The War Eagles (2-2) did it with heavy doses of Nick Lyles, as the running back carried 20 times for 133 yards and all four Chestatee touchdowns, as the War Eagles saw off the Rebels (1-2).
Storm Yarbrough also completed 9 of 13 passes for 135 yards for Chestatee, including four catches for Jacob Goodall.
Steven Martinez banged home a 42-yard field goal in the fourth quarter to round out the scoring for the War Eagles. Fannin County fell behind 14-0 at the half and 21-0 in the third quarter after Lyles' third touchdown, but the Rebels responded with their only score of the night to pull within 21-7with 8:54 remaining.
But Lyles ensured there would be no comeback with a 19-yard touchdown run to help Chestatee maintain firm control.
The War Eagles will play host to Lumpkin County next week.
Fannin County will look to bounce back against Andrews, N.C., next week.
