Softball: Buford, Walnut Grove stage crucial 8-AAAAA showdown in rematch of state title game

BUFORD — The Buford girls softball team will play host to Walnut Grove on Thursday in a rematch of the 2015 and 2016 state championship games between the two teams.

The Lady Wolves won both games to capture their ninth and 10th state titles. However, Thursday's showdown is also a crucial Region 8-AAAAA game for both squads.

To help celebrate Breast Cancer Awareness Week, Buford will be in pink shirts to show support for cancer survivors and increase awareness of breast cancer..

Also, the program will honor the 2007 state championship team between the JV and varsity games. The 2007 team was the first female sports team to win a state title for Buford High School.

First pitch is scheduled for 5:55 p.m. with the 2007 team being honored before the game at approximately 5:30 p.m. at the Buford softball field.
