FLOWERY BRANCH — The Flowery Branch defense is starting to make a name for itself.
The Falcons sacked Chestatee quarterback Storm Yarbrough six times, including a safety, and did not allow a point until the final three seconds in taking an impressive 43-7 victory over the War Eagles Friday night at Falcons Field.
The defense forced three Chestatee turnovers and stoned the War Eagles (1-2) on an early goalline stand that set the tone for the Falcons.
The game was a defensive draw late into the second quarter before Elijah Gainey connected with Nick Lance on a 12-yard touchdown pass with five minutes left in the first half. That opened the floodgates as Flowery Branch (2-0) would score on its final three possessions of the half.
Malik Damons scored on a 1-yard run to cap a 49-yard drive and then gainey found Jalin Strown on another 12-yard touchdown pass with just 48 seconds left for a 21-0 halftime lead.
The third quarter saw the Falcons score on its first three possessions, all by Malik Drayton as the senior scored three times on runs of 19, 13, and 12 yards as the they blew the game open for a 41-0 lead.
The defense made it 43-0 with the sack of Yarbrough in the end zone.
Chestatee got its only points when Yarbrough and Bryson Nowlin connected for a 10-yard touchdown pass with just 3 seconds left.
It was the first points the Flowery Branch defense has allowed so far on the young season.
