The Georgia State Patrol has released the identity of the man who died in Tuesday afternoon’s fatal two-vehicle wreck on Interstate 85 in Banks County.

Ryan Bowman, 34, of Maysville, died when the 2011 Ford cargo van he was driving struck the rear of a 2013 Freightliner tractor-trailer truck on I-85 southbound at mile marker 152 about 2:30 p.m., according to Cpl. Spencer Munger of GSP Post 6 in Gainesville.

The tractor-trailer truck was driven by Dennis O’Neal, 58, of Winston Salem, N.C., Munger said. He was not injured.

The Ford van and the tractor-trailer were traveling south on I-85 in Banks County when the tractor-trailer slowed for traffic ahead, according to Munger.

The van was following too close to avoid an impact, Munger said. The van struck the trailer in the rear with its front.

Bowman was pronounced deceased at the scene by medical personnel, according to Munger.

No charges will be filed, according to Munger.
