SUWANEE — Buford resumed play Saturday in the Hawk/Bulldog tournament taking a pair of wins at North Gwinnett High School.
The Lady Wolves routed Lowndes County 14-1 in four innings in the first game and then beat Harris County 8-1 in the second game ina reatch of last season's Class AAAAA state semifinals.
Against Lowndes, the Lady Wolves' senior shortstop Kelsey Bennett continued her torrid pace belting a pair of home runs, her fifth in the last four games, Bennett had plenty of offensive help as junior Mariah Wicker also smacked a three-run homer in the second to cap a five-run inning. Buford added four more in the third and two in the fifth to invoke the mercy rule. Lowndes scored its only run in the fourth.
Senior Janelle Mathis drives in four runs for the Lady Wolves and rapped out 14 hits Senior pitcher Logan Caymol picked up her third win of the season scattering four hits and striking out seven.
In the rematch against Harris County, Buford used a four-run second inning to break a 1-1 tie. The Lady Wolves scored three more in the fifth to put the game out of reach.
After allowing a run on two hits in the first and pitching out of a major jam, junior Payton Shells held the Harris County offense hitless the rest of the game to earn her first win of the season.
Senior Arielle Oda paced the Buford offense with three hits and two RBI. Bennett had a double, two RBIs an walked three times in five innings. Mathis had two hits and an RBI for the Lady Wolves.
The Lady Wolves will face stern test on Tuesday playing host to defending Class AAAAAAA state champion North Gwinnett. The two teams will meet on Thursday at North Gwinnett.

HART COUNTY 0
Stephens County improved to 5-0 on the season with a win over the rival Lady Bulldogs Saturday.
Emma Whitfield belted a three-run home run off of Gabby Buffington in the top of the seventh to break a 3-3 tie.
Hart County took the inital with a run in the first inning. Stephens County answered with a pair of runs in the top of the third but the Lady Bulldogs answered with two of their own in the bottom of the inning to reclaim the lead.
Stephens County collected nine hits with Mackenzie Rogers, Bailey Dobbs, and Kayley Sellers each tallying a pair of hits to lead the offense.
