Deputies identify woman in critical condition from 'near drowning' in Lanier

Hall County Sheriff's deputies said it was a 21-year-old woman who was pulled from Lake Lanier Wednesday evening in a "near drowning" incident.

Maribel Juarez-Navarrete was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in critical condition; she was apaprently under water for 10-15 minutes, according to Lt. Scott Ware, Hall County Sheriff's Office spokesman.

A friend called 911 when Navarrete didn't resruface in an area of the lake off of Watauga Drive around 8 p.m.

Deputies and emergency personnel pulled her from the water and performed CPR until an ambulance took her to the hospital.

"The patient was found initially in cardiac arrest and a pulse was restored prior to arrival at the hospital," said Hall County Fire Services Capt. Zach Brackett in an email to AccessWDUN.

Navarrete was found in about five feet of water.
