A new mixed use development will bring a combination of retail and residential space to Downtown Sugar Hill.
City council members on Monday approved the rezoning request from Alliance Realty Partners to turn the 7.6-acre property directly across from City Hall into a five-story project, with retail space on the ground floor and four stories of apartments above.
"It's 315 high end rental units, with end caps of about 7,000 square-feet of retail. It will have a 600-plus (space), fully wrapped parking deck that will serve the retail customers and (have) a separate entrance for residents," said Paul Radford, city manager.
Radford said the developer is also planning to bring a townhome development to the adjacent property somewhere down the line.
"On the back side of it will be a separate tract that will ... be for about 20 to 25 townhomes," said Radford.
That project will face a separate approval process.
