Michael Wheeler, Hall County Extension Coordinator, recently received the 2017 Distinguished Service Award from the National Association of County Agriculture Agents.  It was presented during the group's Annual Meeting and Professional Improvement Conference in Salt Lake City, UT.

The award is given to agents with more than ten years of service in Cooperative Extension and who have exhibited excellence in the field of Extension Education. It is presented to only two percent of the County Extension Educators in Georgia each year.

According to a press release from the national organization, Wheeler has shown leadership by incorporating integrated pest management concepts with the apple industry of north Georgia and also with traditional farmers. The release goes on to say, by incorporating IPM principals producers have been able to significantly manage for pests and save money in their orchards and fields; gaining a better understanding of looking at their farms as a whole system rather than piece by piece.

Wheeler also manages Hall County's Master Gardener program.
