CORNELIA — A man who allegedly barricaded himself inside a Cornelia home with a woman and two small children was arrested early Wednesday.

Cornelia Police Department officers responded to a residence off Linda Way about 12:30 a.m. Wednesday regarding a domestic dispute, according to Police Chief Chad Smith.

“Upon arrival, officers made contact with a male subject who advised that D.J. Lomax was making threats toward him with a gun,” Smith said. “He also indicated that inside the house there was a female and two small children who were with Mr. Lomax.”

After multiple attempts by officers to contact Lomax failed, the Habersham Special Response Team was dispatched to the scene and established contact, Smith said.

“It was determined by the Habersham SRT that the use of a beanbag round, a non-lethal use of force tool, was needed to take Mr. Lomax into custody for the safety of the officers and persons involved,” Smith said.

That brought the incident to a successful conclusion.

After being checked out by Habersham Emergency Medical Services personnel, Lomax was taken to the Habersham County Detention Center. He is charged with aggravated assault, terroristic threats and other charges, Smith said.

No one was injured during the incident.
