At this year's annual Taste of History, the Northeast Georgia History Center paid tribute to three women who have made a mark on the Gainesville/Hall community and the Northeast Georgia region.

This year's program, entitled "Magnolias Among Us," honored Rosemary Dodd and Mary Hart Wilheit and posthumously recognized Nell Weigand.

Rosemary Dodd, a well-known local artist and former educator, was called "one of those free spirits who's enthusiastic about everything."

Mary Hart Wilheit was recognized for her service not just to the community but also to the state of Georgia. "If she hasn't served on a board or organization or led some important event around here, that's because it probably hasn't been invented," read the program.

Nell Weigand was dubbed "a consummate volunteer." Weigand contributed more than 10,000 hours of volunteer time to The Medical Auxiliary alone, and she volunteered for numerous other groups, as well.

Northeast Georgia History Center Director Glen Kyle said the Taste of History is the largest fundraiser of the year. All proceeds go to history center operations. The goal, said Kyle, was to raise $50,000 at the 2017 event.
