Cornelia considering possible configurations of city buildings

Posted 10:31PM on Tuesday 1st August 2017 ( 6 years ago )

CORNELIA — Cornelia leaders got their first look Tuesday at several possible concepts for the new city hall, police department and fire station.

"Our architects have given us four potential site plans, I mean vastly different — from city hall and the police department being in one building on the corner of Foreacre and Main Street; to city hall and the police department being in one building on the corner of Wyly and Main Street; to city hall on Wyly and Main, fire station at Foreacre and Main, and police department standalone at Larkin and Foreacre," Cornelia City Manager Donald Anderson said. "So, we've got four choices there."

The city has been purchasing property and demolishing old buildings in and near the current city municipal complex in preparation for the planned construction.

"The one the commissioners liked the best, and what we'll be talking with our architects about, is city hall being the first thing you see coming from Baldwin, the fire station on the corner of Foreacre and Main, and the police department being at the corner of Larkin and Foreacre," Anderson said.

Cornelia City Clerk Janie Henderson provides possible municipal complex configurations to the city commission during its work session Tuesday night.
