With the new school year beginning across northeast Georgia, the Gainesville Police Department has a word of caution:  be careful what you put on back to school postings/pictures on social media.

"Parents, these popular first day of school signs may be putting your child at risk," says a message on the department's Facebook page.  "Please use caution when posting information regarding your children. You may be giving the wrong person too much information about your little loved ones."

This example (the accompanying photo), for instance, shows the age of the child, the school, and teacher, among other things.

"This information could be valuable if the wrong person obtained it, especially for criminal use," the message says.
