A small, amateur-built aircraft landed along Ga. 316 in Dacula on Monday afternoon.

Gwinnett Police reported on social media that the plane landed "safely" near Harbins Road, and  pulled into the median.

Kathleen Bergen, Federal Aviation Administration spokeswoman, said the plane — a Sonex aircraft — made an emergency landing at 12:45 p.m. about three miles east of the Gwinnett County Airport, where it was headed.

In an email to AccessWDUN, Cpl. Michele Pihera, Gwinnett Police spokeswoman, said the pilot is safe, and that one lane of Ga. 316 would be shutdown as authorities investigate the scene.

The plane is registered with the FAA under the ownership of A.J. McAllister of Buford, though it's unclear if was piloting the aircraft.

Nobody else was on board.
