GBI: Gilmer County shooting death appears to be result of domestic dispute

The GBI and Gilmer County Sheriff’s Office are continuing their investigation of a shooting death that occurred in the Ellijay area early Thursday.

At approximately 4 a.m., the Georgia Bureau of Investigation was requested by the Gilmer County Sheriff’s Office to assist with a death investigation,” according to a statement by GBI Region 8 Special Agent in Charge Kimberly Williams.

“At approximately 3:30 a.m., a 9-1-1 call for assistance in reference to a shooting was received by the Gilmer County 9-1-1 Center,” Williams’ statement reads. “Deputies responded to a location near River Hill Road, where they found Charles Patrick Thurman, 26, of Ellijay, deceased from an apparent gunshot wound.”

Williams said the person responsible for shooting Thurman has been identified, but did not release that person’s identity.

“The shooting appears to be the result of a domestic dispute,” Williams’ statement reads.
