Oakwood City Council members unanimously approved the first reading of a motion picture and music permits ordinance among other things at their meeting Monday.
City manager Stan Brown explained since they didn't have a code yet, they wanted to make the proposed ordinance consistent with the Hall County ordinance recently adopted.
"We had looked at their's and we had basically mirrored their code," said Brown. "That way if someone is in the film making business and they want to work here in Oakwood and maybe it's partially in Oakwood, partially in Hall County, it would be very consistent requirements for them."
Following the first reading approval, council held a public hearing and planning commission recommendations for the rezoning of a parcel of land on Main Street which would be used for a proposed town center project.
"It's a piece of property we bought back in 2008... so we're basically getting the zoning consistent with the rest of the property we bought for our town center," said Brown. "We're just trying to get the property positioned so we can seek out some private partnerships."
The public hearing had no comments and the council had no discussion. The motion carried.
The council also unanimously approved a sewer main extension on Atlanta Highway. The extension is about 2,000 feet and the city will split the cost in half with the developer.
On the upcoming city calendar is qualifying for the election is set for August 21 through 23.
