Funeral services are pending for Judge William C. O'Kelley, a longtime federal court judge for the Northern District of Georgia.
O'Kelley was nominated to the new seat on the federal bench in 1970 by President Richard Nixon. He served as chief judge from 1988 to 1994 and assumed senior status in 1996, according to information from Emory Law News Center.
A graduate of Emory University, O' Kelley received Emory Law's Distinguished Alumnus Award and the Emory Medal, the university's highest honor.
O'Kelley also was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.
O'Kelley lived in Murrayville. He died Wednesday at the age of 87.
