It was likely a lightning strike that sparked a house fire in the Suwanee area of Forsyth County Thursday afternoon, officials said.
No injuries were reported in the blaze, which broke out around 2 p.m. in the Grand Cascade subdivision, according to Jason Shivers, Forsyth County Fire division chief.
"Upon our arrival, the home was fully involved in fire, unfortunately. Fortunately, no one was home," said Shivers.
"We have searched the home extensively to make sure there were no injuries, but everyone's accounted for. There are no injuries to civilians or my troops."
A neighbor spotted the fire and called 911 at 2:12 p.m. as heavy storms moved through the South Forsyth area.
"We feel confident that it's a lightning-strike-related fire," said Shivers. "The timing (with the storms) is appropriate, and the fire being high in the attic area of the home is consistent with that."
The home is considered a "heavy loss," or possibly a total loss.
