The Gainesville City School System is looking for a new Chief Financial Officer.
Chris Griner, who has held the position since July 1, 2015, will leave the Gainesville School System to take a similar position with the Sumter School District in South Carolina. Griner said the Sumter district is about twice the size of the Gainesville school system and encompasses schools in both Sumter County and the city of Sumter, South Carolina.
Griner's final order of business for the Gainesville system was getting School Board approval of the FY 2018 budget. Board members approved the $70.1 million spending plan at its Monday night meeting, prior to the announcement of Griner's resignation. The Board did not approve a millage rate, since that figure will not be set until August or September. At this point, the millage rate is expected to remain at 6.85 mills.
Griner's last day with the Gainesville City School System will be July 13.
Incoming Superintendent Dr. Jeremy Williams said a search is already underway for a new CFO.
