Publix Wednesday delivered more than 15,000 pounds of food to Gainesville-based Georgia Mountain Food Bank following its recent Food for Sharing campaign. The Food for Sharing campaign is an annual opportunity for Publix customers to give back to their community. This year customers donated $25,587 which was enough to provide six pallets of food to GMFB.
"Receiving so many of these ‘staples' that GMFB relies on to keep our partner agencies' shelves stocked is an incredible blessing,” said Steve Mueller, operations director at GMFB. "Publix items such as peanut butter, jelly, rice, mac & cheese, fruit bars, mashed potatoes, beef stew, tuna, canned fruit, green beans and canned hams are all items that GMFB is in constant short supply. Today’s delivery will go a long way in helping GMFB and our partners combat hunger in our communities this summer!"
"GMFB is eternally grateful for the generous support of community partners like Publix,” said Kay Blackstock, executive director at GMFB. “From their customers to corporate, their generosity has helped feed many in need in our five county service area. In fact, in 2017, Publix donated more than 432,457 pounds of surplus food to the Food Bank and more than 1.68 million pounds since our partnership began. In addition they will be a table sponsor at our upcoming Empty Bowl Luncheon on September 26.”
