Officials in Gwinnett County Tuesday announced that a new manufacturing facility and 200 jobs are coming to Buford over the next five years.

Carcoustics is expected to set up a new 130,000 square-foot facility at 4620 Thompson Mill Road, according to Partnership Gwinnett, the economic marketing arm for the county and its 16 cities.

Andrew Carnes, director of economic development for Partnership Gwinnett said construction has already started on the building.

"They'll be moving equipment in at the end of 2017, and then essentially opening up production at the beginning of 2018."

Carnes said the development, a $6 million investment, is essentially at the heart of what Partnership Gwinnett officials hope to attract to the county.

"With this being a regional headquarters, as well as manufacturing supply chain, it actually fits 3 of our 5 targeted industries in Gwinnett.

The new jobs will include positions in manufacturing.  The German-based company develops and makes acoustic and thermally effective components for the auto industry.

"We are very happy to have found the location for our new plant in the South of U.S. here in Georgia. We have a great international transport connection here and are logistically well located between BMW in South Carolina and Mercedes in Alabama,” Stefan Vallentin, project manager at Carcoustics said for a media release.

Other Carcoustics' customers include manufacturers of domestic appliances, agricultural machinery and HVAC systems.

Officials including Governor Nathan Deal, Gwinnett County Commission Chair Charlotte Nash and Buford City Manager Bryan Kerlin praised the company and its choice of sites.

"This is a great win for the City of Buford and we are excited to welcome Carcoustics as one of our newest businesses," Kerlin said. "We are confident that they will find the support and resources in our community that are necessary to remain competitive in the U.S. and around the world."
