State Sen. Michael Williams under fire for photo with militia group

A Georgia State Senator and gubernatorial candidate from Cumming is facing some criticism over a photo of him posing with a militia group.

Michael Williams posed with members of the Georgia Security Force III% militia after a Piedmont Park event. He also urged voters to "unite" against Sharia law, according to CBS 46.

CBS 46 reports Williams said he normally takes hundreds of photos a day and the group appeared to be second amendment supporters.

"It's just standard operation from the far left," Williams told the television station. "Fear tactics trying to label me something that I'm not and we're just going to get out there with our message and stay on point."

Williams formally entered the governor's race earlier this month on a pro-Trump platform that includes a promise to expand gun rights, according to the Georgia News Network.
