A woman working as a corner judge during a motorcycle race at Braselton's Road Atlanta was killed Saturday afternoon during an accident at the track.
Hazel Harrell, 60, was apparently struck and killed by a motorcycle that was participating in the race, according to a report from WSBTV in Atlanta. The accident happened around 4:00 p.m.
WSB says the victim's identity was confirmed by the Hall County medical examiner.
Harrell had apparently volunteered at the track for 15 years, where the report says she was a "fixture" at Turn 7.
When reached for comment, Road Atlanta officials issued a statement regarding what they called a "terrible tragedy."
"We at Road Atlanta are devastated to confirm the passing of one of our own, Hazel Harrell, this weekend," the statement said. "A member of the Road Atlanta family for nearly two decades, we will miss her sorely. Our deepest condolences go out to her family and friends and the entire racing community that knew and loved her."
No other details have been released, and investigators are now working to determine exactly what happened at the time of the crash.
