The 2016-17 high school sports season brought us dizzying heights, gut-wrenching lows and everything in between.
There were championships -- boy were there championships. In fact, northeast Georgia programs nabbed 15 state titles, and there were several near-misses with five runners-up.
There was also genuine history made as Rabun County girls basketball, Flowery Branch girls basketball, North Hall girls tennis, Flowery Branch girls soccer, Buford girls soccer, Lakeview boys basketball and North Hall volleyball each made their deepest ever state tournament runs -- not to mention first-ever state crowns for North Hall baseball and Buford boys basketball.
Those historic moments -- and so many more -- were produced by a group of high school athletes as explosive and talented as northeast Georgia has witnessed, and they took us on an unforgettable ride.
The cameras of AccessWDUN sports were on hand throughout, capturing jaw-dropping exploits. and while we could not be everywhere at once, the plays we did commit to video proved more than impressive.
